Blue Tree Project

Kicking The Stigma of Mental Health

"Why is that tree blue?..." This question sparks a conversation that can change everything.

Blue Trees, standing across the globe are powerful symbols of mental health awareness - silent yet unwavering reminders that you're not alone.

About Blue Tree Project

Blue Tree Project is a mental health charity that began in 2019 after the tragic loss of Jayden Whyte, a much-loved son, brother and friend to suicide in 2018. Blue Tree Project began as a grassroots initiative in regional Western Australia which has grown into a widely recognised and impactful global charity.

These striking symbols of hope have resonated deeply, sparking open and meaningful conversations, positively transforming attitudes towards mental health.

Every Blue Tree holds its own story 💭

Some carry tales of whole towns rolling up their sleeves to spark conversations.

Many are painted by little hands as they learn it’s ok to talk about how they feel and ask for help.

Others are painted by families turning their grief into hope, a reminder for passersby to spark a conversation, check in on each other and reach out for support if they need it.

All 1,564 Blue Trees are unique but carry the same goal: a world where we can talk openly about what's weighing on us, so no one has to feel alone 💙

Meet our Blue Tree Project speakers out there making an impact! 🎤

Kendall, Simon and Warren have inspired thousands to open up and start conversations about mental health over the years.

They've lived it, learned from it and want to genuinely help others along the way. Each with their own important message, worth listening to.

Our 2026 calendar is filling up fast, so plan ahead! 🗓️
You might spot a Blue Tree on a fairway, along a road, in someone's yard, in a paddock, on a wall, in a pot... or somewhere else.

But the message is always the same.

Every time you see a Blue Tree, remember that someone wants you to know that you're not alone and that support is always out there 💙

By checking in on each other and talking openly about mental health, we make it easier for people to speak up and reach out.

Thanks to Richard, Marcus, Tanya and everyone at Prospect Vale Golf Club and Country Club Tasmania for spreading our mission.

Our hearts go out to everyone with one less seat at their table this Christmas 💙

Another school year done & dusted! 📚️

Mental health isn't just a 'grown-up' experience, our littlest minds need care too. Congratulations to every student who pushed through the harder days, showed up and tried their best this school year. Growing and learning isn't always easy, and you smashed it out the park.

A big shoutout to the teachers, counsellors and staff who show up with patience, and care every day, we appreciate your incredible dedication to guiding our next generation.

A huge thank you to all the schools who got involved with the Blue Tree Project mission this year. Seeing the imaginative ways you've sparked conversations and encouraged your students to look after one another has been pretty special.

Enjoy your summer break, we can't wait to spark more convos with you next year! 💙

Burnout can sneak up quietly at this time of year 🎅

Between trying to do it all, finishing the year, wrapping presents, planning a holiday or thinking about what's next. It's understandable to feel overwhelmed, but this shouldn't feel like the norm.

That's why its so important to take a moment and check in with yourself and your mental load, especially when external pressures are building.

Listen to the signs your body might be sending you - that exhaustion 24/7 is it's way of signaling that it's time to pause and put a few things in place to look after yourself during the season.

If you're feeling burnt out, you're not alone. Prioritise recharging your energy and getting back to feeling like yourself 💙
Some of the best lessons often come from those around us 💭

This Blue Tree in Cullelleraine was brought to life by four generations of family, a local policeman, the Office Manager, Park staff, friends, strangers and two fluffy helpers 🐶

Everyone had their own reason for picking up a paintbrush. But through shared stories, a bit of mess and a few laughs, this crew left a lasting mark on each other.

And that's a wrap...or should we say a roll?!

BTP Wrapped is here, a look back on the huge impact you made this year. Hundreds of trees painted, heartfelt fundraisers held and countless conversations sparked 💬

None of this would be possible without the dedicated community backing our mission. We can't wait to continue kickin' the stigma with you in 2026! 💙
Although mining can look like it's on autopilot, there's a team working around the clock to make it happen 👷

At the recent Miners Mingle, Blue Tree Project CEO Kendall Whyte OAM, Paul Turley, Michael Place and Robbie Figg as moderator shared honest insights about the mental wellbeing challenges in the mining industry.

For FIFO workers, balance isn't always easy. Long stints away, performance pressures and time off that doesn't always leave you feeling recharged. The panel opened up the conversation and talked about ways to build routines, stay connected and help FIFO workers thrive both on and off site.

What does it truly mean to “be a man” these days? 👨

For a long time, the answer has been “be tough”, “don’t feel too much”. But things are shifting, and @themanwalk in Maroubra shows this. Blokes showing up for each other, walking, talking leaving the old “she’ll be right” mindset behind.

They're changing how future generations of boys experience being a man, breaking cycles and showing that strength and emotion can co-exist.

Whether it’s a round of golf, drink or even a quick call, remember to lean on your mates all year ‘round because needing help is normal.

Nothing quite says ‘let’s talk’ like a freshly grown mo 👨🏽

Movember isn't just for growing some questionable upper lip hair, but an opportunity to start a convo with your mates about how they're really doing.

Sometimes the hardest part of a conversation can be starting it. A meaningful chat can start with "you heard of Movember?" or "that blue tree's a reminder to check in - how're you going?"

Mental health struggles don't discriminate. Check in on the quiet mates, the loud ones, and everyone in between. You never know who might need it most 💙
It all started with one leftover tin of blue paint, a tree and two mates. Today, we celebrate 1,500 registered Blue Trees worldwide! 💙

Each Blue Tree is unique, in shape, size, material and meaning. One thing they all share is their power to spark meaningful conversation and act as a silent, yet unwavering reminder to talk about how you're really feeling.

Thank you for helping us normalise mental health check-ins, this is how we chip away at stigma.

That's why it's so important to start these conversations early, so kids grow up knowing mental health is real and part of life for us all.

Sometimes we are asked ‘but how does painting a tree help mental health?’

This Blue Tree in Portland is a beautiful representation that it's so much more than just paint on a tree. It’s people coming together, sparking conversations, and sending an unspoken message that will echo through the community for years to come.

A message that those who are struggling aren't alone. There are people around you of all ages who understand how tough it can be, and who care enough to speak up and stand beside you 💙

📍 Portland, VIC
Paint has always been pretty important to us. Our journey started with an old tin of blue paint found kicking about in a farm shed and a couple of mates looking to cause some mischief.

So far this year our paint partners, @wattylpaint, have donated over 2,500 litres of free blue paint, helping to bring hundreds of Blue Trees to life across Australia and New Zealand.

It’s partnerships like these that show us how real change is made possible when we come together, start conversations, and share a common goal. Thank you, Wattyl, for helping us kick the stigma of mental health 💙
Last week marked World Mental Health Day and National Paint a Tree Blue Day, a special chance for communities to come together and talk about mental health 💙

From striking Blue Tree sculptures to community painting days and sporting fundraisers, we loved seeing all the creative ways you chose to raise mental health awareness.

Thank you to everyone who chose to mark the day with us. Let's keep the conversations going and build a mentally healthier future! 🙌
Mental health can be difficult to navigate. Some days you can go from laughing with your mates to feeling like the pain will never end in just a few hours.

Healing doesn't always follow a straight line. Emotions go up and down and learning to understand them instead of fighting them can help us to build a healthier relationship with our minds.

There's courage in doing what makes you anxious, and strength in asking for help when you need it. We're all growing and learning each day 💙

The preschoolers at Warriewood have been busy little bees, creating their very own Blue Tree from all sorts of recycled blue treasures.

Every day, we try to do mental health awareness differently 🖌️

It's not about the campaigns or posters, it's about real people, real conversations and looking out for those around us, even in small ways.

Today is World Mental Health Day and Official Paint A Blue Tree Day, and small steps from all of us help shift the conversation.

Even when it doesn't always feel like it, our understanding of mental health is improving. Science, education and open conversations are giving us better tools to help, and people are talking more.

We all have the power to make talking about mental health challenges easier and normal by taking small actions every day to show people they're not alone 💙
